What happened to the Goddess? There was a time in southern Europe that a tribe of spiritual people focused upon the feminine aspects of the Divine lived in harmony and beauty for 2,000 years in Turkey and 3,500 years BC Old Europe. Did this mean if there was a focus on a goddess that men were dominated. Not at all, all were equal, it was the qualities of the wise women that led the people to create crops, art and beauty instead of weapons. These gentle people were overrun by warrior tribes with their sky gods. Since then it has been a progressive decline of women's social and political status, and increase in patricarchy and misogyny by reinforcing left-brain dominance, with linear thinking now valued over feelings and intuition, word valued over image and hierarchy the natural order.
Women want a world that is safe for children, one in which they do not live in fear themselves. This will never happen unless women as a gender become actively involved and full partners in determining the fate of the earth and life upon it.
Twice before the women have changed their world and been an influence for good through collective action. The first was the "women's suffragette movement." The right to vote was secured! The second was called the "women's movement." Equality was its goals. IT IS TIME FOR A THIRD MOVEMENT BY THE WOMEN. A WOMENS PEACE MOVEMENT.
Women have a beautiful unique quality - empathy. (Some men do also.) We have the ability to feel what other's feel. We can imagine the pain of a mother's loss of her children in war, we can imagine the heartbreak of children who have no parents. We cry about it, we pray about it. We call you do do more, to use these special heart qualities that are within you, empathy, love, compassion, strength and wisdom to make a difference now. We may not all wish to be able to find ways to stop war, but we can stop violence, hatred, prejudice and injustice.
Much great work has been done already. Much of it has begun in women's circles, where women have sat down with each other, supported and strengthened each other and then taken on "the peace moment" where they are. It is the desire of Diane and I to help you experience what women's circles can do and then to cheer you on as you go back to your communities to create your own circle.
We begin with discovering the goddess qualities within ourselves, claiming them, being affirmed in them by our fellow sister goddess and then the ripples can spread out into the world. We will make a plan, we will make a difference. Let there be peace on earth and let it begin with us!
